History of the Foundation
FICH is an initiative driven directly from the presidency of the Electromedical Business Group (GEE), a leading entity in clinical engineering and hospital technology with more than four decades of experience.
Ours represents the natural evolution of a historical commitment: to strengthen specialization, continuing education and knowledge transfer within the healthcare ecosystem.
1976 – The beginning of a dream
1985 – First national expansion
1995 – Innovation in DNA
2002 – The technological leap
2010 – Sustainability and social responsibility
2020 – Acceleration of telemedicine
2025 – FICH is born
It all began in 1976, when Raúl Delgado, a visionary who understood the power of technology to improve health, founded Mantelec SA, the first step towards the Electromedical Business Group (GEE).
From its inception, the mission was clear: to improve healthcare through technological innovation. In a Spain that was still developing its hospital infrastructure, GEE took its first steps by distributing specialized medical equipment and collaborating with the country's pioneering hospitals, laying the foundations for a legacy of excellence.
During the 1980s, GEE experienced rapid growth, establishing itself as a reliable and leading provider of hospital technology.
The company expanded its offerings with high-tech equipment that transformed healthcare in hospitals and clinics throughout Spain. This period marked the beginning of its international expansion, reaching its first markets in Europe and Latin America, bringing Spanish innovation to the world.
In the 1990s, GEE integrated innovation as part of its DNA.
The company invested in research and development, designing its own products and comprehensive electromedical systems, pioneering the field in Spain. This effort consolidated a culture of excellence and continuous improvement, reinforced by collaborations with hospitals and universities, and laid the foundation for its reputation as a technological leader in clinical engineering.
As the new millennium dawned, GEE took a qualitative leap in innovation.
In 2002, he spearheaded the digitalization of the healthcare sector in Spain, implementing advanced solutions for diagnostic imaging, monitoring, and hospital management. More than 100 modernized hospitals benefited from these solutions, improving efficiency and patient care.
In 2010, GEE made a broader commitment: to unite innovation and sustainability.
The company developed initiatives for recycling medical equipment, improving energy efficiency in hospitals, and undertaking social responsibility projects, benefiting disadvantaged communities. These actions earned it environmental certifications and recognition for its social commitment, solidifying its reputation as a responsible company and a leader in the sector.
In 2020, amidst the global transformation of the healthcare sector, GEE led the acceleration of telemedicine in Spain, implementing digital solutions that connected patients, doctors and hospitals securely and efficiently.
With pilot projects in flagship hospitals, GEE ensured continuity of care, demonstrating adaptability and leadership in critical moments.
After decades of leadership, innovation and commitment, GEE takes a decisive step: the birth of FICH – Foundation Institute for Clinical and Hospital Engineering, a project designed to drive the future of clinical engineering from its foundations.
FICH combines quality training and business experience, training new generations of clinical engineers not only with technical knowledge, but with a comprehensive vision of the healthcare sector, prepared to transform hospitals and technology.
The project reflects a trajectory built with rigor, passion and responsibility, and opens a new chapter where training and business walk together.
FICH is not just the fruit of years of experience… it is the seed of what is to come.
